Any SWORN peace officer in the State of New Mexico may request the assistance of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol
The Las Cruces Troop of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol primarily serves Law Enforcement Agencies in Dona Ana and Sierra Counties

Q. What kind of requests can be made?
A. A sworn peace officer can request the assistance of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol either verbally or in writing. There are several types of requests. Some examples are:
1. Requesting the New Mexico Mounted Patrol for a single event
2. Requesting the New Mexico Mounted Patrol's assistance for specific days of the week.
3. Requesting the New Mexico Mounted Patrol as backup officers as they become available
4. Requesting by service agreement that New Mexico Mounted Patrol officers are 24 hour peace officers anytime they are present within their jurisdiction.

Each agency determines if they wish to make individual requests or if they choose to make a blanket written request.
Utilizing the NMMP can be make the officers in your agency less at risk. For example, a single deputy in an outlying area may not have adequate, timely backup. A single manned unit can be turned into a two man unit utilizing the NMMP.
